A manual sprayer needs continuous hand-pumping to keep pressure up, which tires you over long sessions. A battery sprayer runs an electric pump from a rechargeable battery, so you simply spray — far less effort and faster coverage of larger areas.
Manual pumping causes pressure to rise and fall, leading to uneven spray. A battery sprayer holds steady pressure, giving more uniform droplet coverage and better results from your pesticides and fertilisers.
Manual sprayers cost less upfront and have almost no running cost. Battery sprayers cost a bit more and need occasional battery replacement after a few years, but save a great deal of labour and time.
Manual sprayers are very simple to maintain and repair. Battery sprayers add a battery, motor and switch, but quality units are reliable and parts are readily available from a good manufacturer.
For small plots, spot spraying and the tightest budgets, a manual sprayer is dependable and economical. For small-to-medium farms where you spray regularly and want to save effort and time, a battery operated knapsack sprayer is usually the better long-term value. For very large or tall crops, step up to a power or HTP sprayer.
